WATCHOUT FOR THE HOME COMING OF KWEKU BANY

Rapper Kweku Bany was crowned the 2020 winner of TV3’s music reality show Mentor on the 27th Dec 2020.

Bany represented the South Western Zone of Ghana and bested Ayeyi, Lyte, Semenhyia, Hyndu and Netty to clinch the ultimate prize. He took home Ghs 10 000 (about $1 700) cash, a new car, two mastered songs and $8 500 worth of airtime across the station’s parent company Media General’s TV, radio and digital platforms. He also takes over from rapper Optional King, who won the contest last year.

“Your love and support brought me this far, and I’m grateful for that,” Bany said.

Ayeyi came second, winning $1 700, one mastered song and $6 500 worth of airtime. Second runner-up Semenhyia walked away with $1 400, one mastered song and $5 000 worth of airtime, while third runner-up Netty won $900, one mastered song and $3 500 in airtime.

Throughout the competition, Kweku Bany was under the tutelage of singer Adina, who also served as a judge for the show. Rapper Edem, Musicians Union of Ghana president Bessa Simons and producer Appietus were the other members of the Mentor jury.

“Over the last 13 weeks, the contestants have been groomed, trained and shown all the tricks of how to become a big star. For our judges, we are very grateful that they took time throughout the season to train these people, groom them and bring them to the level that they are today.” Francis Doku, the general manager of Media General Ghana said.

The final episode of the season saw guest performances from Optional King, Afropop group Keche, among others.

Mentor was established in 2006 to provide a springboard for emerging musicians. It also looks to “add value and equip these young musicians with the requisite music business knowledge, industry insights and support to transform them into global stars.”

According to the management of kyerem entertainment, the Mentor Winner home coming program which was slatted on the 31st Jan. 2021 has being postponed. The management are appealing to the general public that the new date will be publish in know time.
